You Don’t Want my Pink Suede Trench Coat? Well, Your Loss.

A few weeks ago, I found myself starting to sell some of my clothes on eBay. Well, one piece of clothing in particular. Maybe it was all the talk about the sucky economy and all the advice I’d been hearing about how to scare up extra cash during lean times.
Like “Gather up all your old gold jewelry and smelt it into a brick. Then sell it!” Um, no.
“Learn how to sew and knit and make your own clothing!”
Ha ha ha. No.
So I put my pink suede trench on the market.
The poor pink coat had been hanging in my closet for almost four years, ever since I’d moved home to Boston from Phoenix.
I know what you’re thinking. Pink suede coat-equals-awful.
But I thought it was pretty cute.
True, it was an impulse buy. True, the lining was hot pink, with magenta and purple hearts. But somehow, it called to me (btw, it was only $70, which I consider perfectly reasonable for an impulse purchase of an item that’s outside your normal comfort zone). I looked forward to having a chance to wear it somewhere. Alas, that time just never happened.
Before I knew it I’d gotten a job and moved back to my hometown of Boston. I’d get invited out for dinner, drinks, plays. Every time I’d get dressed I’d put on a black shirt, jeans… and the coat. Black pants, white shirt… and the coat. In this New England land of fleeces and hiking boots, my pink suede coat never looked right.
